My light is all shades of black that runs from the top of the spectrum to the bottom,
To the deepest depths the sea is yet to reveal
Dark warm places where man is praying to discover.
My light is a shade of slavery that white people forget to document, the area of survival
Where the negroes were not at the apex of the hierarchy,
We weren’t on a spectrum that ignored our existence
My light is a shade of tears shed by every family, every mother, brother, father, daughter that’s lost their soul
How they had to watch a part of them wither and sink to pits of hell
A hell that’s only shades of white.
